One of my favorite types of children books are biographies. The format, large and full of illustrations, makes it a pleasure to read. Children learn about real people, about history and about politics while having fun reading and discovering new books. Josephine is one of those books : realistic, informative, pleasant, fun. Black stories are not often put in the forfront. School teaches you about amazing people such as Abraham Bell, James Dean and Coco Chanel, but more rarely about amazing people such as Viola Desmond, Josephine Baker and Elizabeth Coleman. Needless to say, black female role models are important to black girls and their families. This book is a must read.
